The Donnelly Group is thrilled to announce that Jay Jones, award-winning barman and internationally recognized cocktail designer, will join the Group on January 16th as Executive Bartender & Brand Ambassador.
Jones will be leading development of Bartenders as well as managing all aspects of cocktail programs in partnership with longtime friend and colleague, Bar & Beverage Director Trevor Kallies. Additionally, Jay will be proud to act as the Donnelly Group’s ambassador of bar culture.
The announcement marks a return to the Group for Jones, who first joined Donnelly in
2007 as the Bar & Beverage Manager. Since those earlier days with the Group, Jones has flourished, winning numerous cocktail competitions, consulting for some of Vancouverʼs premier restaurants and even co-opening his own establishment, Pourhouse, which was lauded by the Wall Street Journal within weeks of opening. 2012 was a banner year for Jones. He was named enRoute magazineʼs Canadian Bartender of the Year; selected as Vancouver’s “Most Imaginative Bartender” by GQ Magazine; repeated as Champion of the annual Grey Goose PourMasters Vancouver competition, and was runner-up in “The Cognac 10” Grey Goose International Bartending Competition in France.
Adding substance to Jones’ efforts behind the bar is a lengthy list of certifications in wine, spirits, beer and sabrage. Jay is also a founding Director of the Canadian Professional Bartenders Association and Cocktail culture writer for Montecristo Magazine.
Jayʼs first order of business is refinement of the beverage program and bar team at
Yaletown’s recently renovated Killjoy Barbers, with the intent of creating one of the preeminent cocktail experiences in the city. Jones will also be spending time at Gastownʼs Clough Club and is looking forward to personally engaging patrons on the finer points of cocktails and spirits.
