Meet Sara Gourlay and Stormey Rhiannon. Two hot chicks on a mission to make transform the “old” to “new” through their collection Fate Vintage.
Adele Tetangco: Why did you decide to start FATE Vintage?
Sara Gourlay + Stormey Rhiannon: It seemed natural to start FATE vintage because we both have a similar vision for fashion. We make a good team as we both bring different talents to the table. Sara has a background in picking vintage and marketing, and Stormey has experience in business admin and e-commerce.
AT: How did the two of you meet?
SG + SR: We met through a mutual friend in 2011 and have been inseparable ever since.
AT: You ladies single? (I am sure guys will be asking).
SG + SR: We’re both taken, sorry guys.
AT: what do you look for when you’re picking vintage?
SG + SR: We look for pieces that represent current looks and trends.
AT: Where do you sell your items?
SG + SR: We have been selling our clothing at markets such as The Chosen Ones, Beggars Banquet, and the Gypsy Market. We also just launched our new collection at TODAY, a boutique in Gastown.
AT: Do you sell men + women?
SG + SR: We sell mostly women’s clothing. Although at markets we sell men’s button-up shirts and denim jackets. Lots of our pieces are unisex or androgynous, like our oversized shirts and military jackets. Our collection at TODAYconsists of higher-end and fashion forward pieces for women.
AT: What has been your best find (name one piece). Are you selling it?
SG + SR: Our favorite find was a sheer black fringe kimono. We fought over who would keep it, so we decided to sell it. We loved it so much that we decided to construct FATE vintage inspired kimonos and will be a signature to our style.
AT: Do you find it hard to sell the pieces you find – because you want to keep them for yourselves?
SG + SR: This might be our biggest problem… not to mention there are two of us! We were both obsessed with finding camo jackets for the fall.
AT: Name the best but cheapest thing you’ve ever found.
SG + SR: Our best find would be this rare Chanel purse at Value Village. We were deep in Maple Ridge when we found this gem. We were both exhausted after a day of unsuccessful picking and were about to give up, and then we found the bag.
