Pro Bowl Contest Winner!

With the Super Bowl now over, so is our Donnelly Pub Group NFL promotion. This year’s Pro Bowl winner, Ian Boyko invited his friend Michael Olson to join him in Fort Lauderdale. Ian and Michael received airfare, accommodation and two lower bowl tickets to the Pro Bowl. For the 17 week schedule NFL followers would come to Donnelly Pubs to watch NFL games. For each pub visit, members of our free contest received and entry to win a trip for 2 to the Pro Bowl in Miami. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate while they were there but from the photo evidence they were able to consume some American brews and partake in some great Pro Bowl festivities.
The 2011 Pro Bowl is being held in the massive Cowboys Stadium. It‘s easy to win – come in, watch a game, enter to win. Donnelly Pubs for the NFL – better than your Mama’s house.
Thanks to Ian we have selected some of the less incriminating photos:

Republic Launches New Live Music Showcase

showcase_flyer

By Shawn Conner

Beginning Jan 12, up-and-coming local bands are going to have a new room in which to rock out.

A dearth of live music venues is a common complaint in Vancouver. But downtown nightclub Republic is opening its second floor to groups like Free City Collective (Jan 12), Familia (Jan 19), and By Starlight (Jan 26).
Nate Sabine, marketing director for the Donnelly Hospitality Management Group, says that the club tried out the live-music format for a couple of weeks last year “just to see if the bands could get their fans down. And it went quite well.”

The group has contracted Graham Pence to book the room. The format calls for three acts, the first up at 10:20 and the last one over by 1:20 a.m., in the upstairs section of the two floor bar. A DJ plays 20 minutes in between bands. Cover charge is six dollars.

“It’s to try and get some true exposure for these guys,” said Sabine. “The Roxy has been doing their Canadian content thing for years, and I think that does really well. But there are some bands that won’t necessarily work there. We want people to come down and be in an environment where they want to stick around and have a couple of drinks and hear these guys.”
The emphasis is on bands rather than singer/songwriters, says Sabine. “It’s just not the right vibe. We’re going for everything from dance-rock to garage-rock type of sound. But Graham pretty much has free reign. I don’t ask to see who he’s booked beforehand or check out their Myspace. I trust his judgment.”

Congrats to Megablend 2 winner DJ Eclectik!

After 5 preliminary rounds and 40 DJs, the Megablend 2 finals went down Wednesday Dec 2nd. It was a fantastic night with all the remaining competitors spinning excellent sets, but alas there could be only 3 winners. Brendan Butter played a very classy set to take home 3rd place. Goodspin played a technical masterpiece that had the room rockin to place as the runner-up.

But it was DJ Eclectik who pulled out all the stops – great mixing and programming, fun crowd interaction and top notch turntablism added up to him being the unanimous choice as the MEGABLEND 2 champ – congrats!

Check the video of his winning set or to download an MP3 of it HERE

Thanks again to all the DJs who competed, and all the fans who cheered them on. It was another great event and we can’t wait to do it all again in the spring. Until then be sure to look out for the Red Bull 3 Style in early 2010, where Eclektik will go up against 7 of Vancouver’s best for the chance to represent in the national finals in Toronto.

Donnelly Hospitality Management Goes Big for the Holidays 8th Annual Toy Drive for the Salvation Army

image1Vancouver, BC – This year, Donnelly Hospitality Management (DHM) gets right into the spirit of Christmas giving. The hospitality industry leader is conducting their 8th Annual Toy Drive in partnership with the Salvation Army and the Donnelly Fund at Republic Nightclub on Tuesday December 15th from 8pm – 12pm.

The 8th Annual Toy Drive ensures a special Christmas for children in need across the Lower Mainland. DHM is giving a $50 Toys ‘R’ Us gift certificate to each employee, along with suppliers, close industry partners and VIP customers —over 400—to buy gifts for underprivileged kids of all ages. Gift certificate recipients are encouraged to get into the spirit and go beyond the $50; DHM will match all donations added to the $50 gift certificate. With sights set high, the caring company is aiming to donate over $30,000 worth of toys this year.

The Toy Drive is the most anticipated event of the year for DHM and includes a chic and cheerful Christmas Cocktail Party at Republic, where the goods go to the kids. Party goers will bring their unwrapped gifts, receive Christmas cocktails and complimentary appetizers, and enjoy live 80s synthpop hits from house band One Night Stand. As the party plays on throughout the night, the gifts continue to pile high from DHM staff, partners and friends who come out to support the kids.

The Salvation Army is one of the world’s largest and most trusted providers of social services, ensuring donations go directly to those in most urgent need. DHM conducted the first annual Christmas Toy Drive in 2002, benefitting the Salvation Army and children in need. The Annual Toy Drive has become one of the largest in the city, in which DHM challenges other companies to support this highly anticipated event and promotes goodwill within the company by encouraging staff to celebrate the holiday spirit of giving.

The Granville Room Crafts New Olympic-Inspired Cocktails…

gr-4

Vancouver, BC | As the Olympic torch makes its way across Canada, the Granville Room shows its spirit with the announcement of its Olympic-inspired cocktails, created by resident bar star Trevor Kallies. Available January 1st until the end of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, each cocktail is inspired by a great Canadian Olympic moment and showcases Canadian liquor and ingredients. Trevor created five cocktails in honour of the five Olympic rings, which sell for $9 each.

image1The Winner Take All, inspired by Cindy Klassen’s 2006 speed skating performance in Turin, blends Crown Royal Special Reserve Whiskey, honey syrup, Gamay Noir float and flamed orange peel. Lord of the Oval is named for Gaetan Boucher’s three medals in long-track speed skating at 1984’s Sarajevo games, and marries Wiser’s deluxe, muddled red grapes, peach bitters, ginger ale and peach juice. The Gold, Silver and Greene, inspired by Nancy Greene’s 1968 double medal performance in Grenoble, melds Victoria gin, Barnston Island basil, simple syrup, grapefruit juice and orange-flower water. The Double Lucky Loonie, named for the men’s and women’s hockey teams (which both took home gold from the 2002 games in Salt Lake City), blends Canadian Club Premium Whiskey, maple syrup, Whistler Black Tusk Ale and Sortilege Canadian Whiskey & Maple Liqueur. The Golden Redemption, named for Jamie Salé and David Pelletier’s near miss of figure skating gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City games, marries Alberta Premium Rye with applesauce, fresh lemon juice and a dash of Fee Brothers’ rhubarb bitters.

An oasis of good taste and casual elegance in the Entertainment District, the Granville Room is Vancouver’s true speakeasy: little talked about and much loved. Busy with metropolitan locals and a chic pre-club and post-theatre crowd, the Granville Room focuses on excellent service, fine, quality craft cocktails and a boutique dining menu. The richly dark interior is accented by large mirrors, cozy seating and a lavish bar. The Granville Room is located 957 Granville Street in Vancouver, BC (604-633-0056) and is open daily from 10 pm-2 am.

with The Freshest, Group Hug, Matty C and Dana D

Recently voted America’s #1 DJ, Z-Trip basically invented the mash-up. It’s impossible to enter a club today and not feel the impact of Z Trip’s contribution to the way music is presented and programmed by the modern DJ. He was the first to break down the walls of genres and amalgamate trends and classics into a cohesive blend of everything under the sun, a style exempt from boundaries.
